What is the Difference Between AS9100 and ISO 9001?
Basically, ISO 9001 covers the Quality Management System requirements that can be applied to any organization and is prepared and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). AS9100 Rev D covers the Quality Management Systems requirements for aerospace and defense organizations published by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG).
Although they are different in definition, their general requirements within the scope of the Quality Management System are similar. It differs from the AS9100 Rev D standard in that it contains additional requirements for aerospace and defense. In other words, in order to comply with the AS9100 Rev D standard, it is necessary to meet the requirements of ISO 9001.
If it is not necessary to apply the additional aviation requirements within the scope of the AS9100 standard within the enterprise, the ISO 9001 standard may be sufficient in the establishment of the QMS. Businesses that comply with or have ISO 9001 standard are easy to add additional requirements in accordance with the AS9100 standard.
